HDC's Background

Our Background

The Housing Development Corporation, formerly known as the Sarawak Housing and Development Commission (SPPS), was established on 1 December 1971 under the Housing and Development Ordinance as a corporate body under the Sarawak Ministry of Housing.

It began operations on 1 November 1972. On 29 October 2002, the Housing Development Corporation Ordinance was passed by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, replacing the 1971 Housing and Development Ordinance.

Effective 1 January 2003, SPPS was renamed Housing Development Corporation (HDC), becoming a corporate body under the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Sarawak (MPHLG).
