PPR Lambir, fulfilling the dreams of the underprivileged
Posted on : 03 Aug 2017

MIRI: It was a dream come true for Alexander Jaya, 34, when he was able to own a house of his own through the  People’s Housing Project (PPR).

Due to high house prices here and the status of being a disabled person following an accident in 2009 on his way home from work, Alexander, who receives a monthly pension and an allowance from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Social Welfare Department (JKM), was only able to afford renting a house for RM350 a month.

The father-of-two’s dream materialised through PPR, a federal government housing project carried out by the National Housing Department under the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, which facilitates in fulfilling the needs of the less fortunate.

Provided with a loan repayment period of 30 years and a monthly instalment of RM321, Alexandar is all eager to move into PPR Lambir’s single storey terrace unit soon.

“I want to move fast as I have to pay my rent as well as the PPR loan, which I had begun paying in June.

“I also hope to celebrate Christmas in my new home,” he told reporters after receiving a replica of his house keys yesterday.

Meanwhile, for Bong Wan Tzen, 36, she had long dreamed of owning a house of her own since getting married 10 years ago.

“I currently stay with my parents and I am thankful that after 10 years of waiting, I have succeeded in getting a place of my own,” said the mother-of-three who works in a firm.

The dreams of another PPR recipient, Khairul Anwar Jaman, 29, a father of two, to own a house was also fulfilled as he had previously stayed with his family in Kampung Lambir.

Alexander, Bong dan Khairul were among 10 who received key replicas from Housing and Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee here yesterday.  — Bernama
